General Notes: At the time of the 1851 Census Robert was living in Dykehead, Shotts. He was aged 56, a Coal Mine, born in Larbert, Stirlingshire. Living with him were his wife, Janet Beveridge, aged 57, born Dalgetty, Fifeshire; his mother Isobel Laird, aged 80 a Widow supported by her family, born Larbert, Stirlinghsire; son Thomas, aged 23 and Unmarried, a coal miner born in Shotts; and James Campbell aged 15, a Servant Coal Drawer and Mary Simpson aged 13, a House Servant, both born in Shotts. Noted events in his life were: • He worked as a Coal Miner at the time of the Census in 1851 in Dykehead, Shotts, , Lanark, Scotland. • He emigrated to the USA on 11 Nov 1851 from Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Robert married Janet Beveridge. (Janet Beveridge was born in 1794 in Dalgety, Fife, Scotland and died on 13 Oct 1873 in Glencoe, Buffalo, Wisconsin, USA.) |
