(SURREY) REGIMENT. 256 PTE. DOOLE, JOHN 080157 N.Z. 311265 SLS. Promoted to the 70th Regiment, Better known as the Die Hards, Assisted in quelling Indian Mutiny, Fought in Waikato Wars, Disc, Between 1855 and 1866. • Military: Doole,John 70th Regiment Private Wellington 30 Pounds recommeneded. • He resided at Utiku, near Taihape, New Zealand between 1901 and 7 Jul 1927. • He resided at Wanganui district, and went farming in Waverly and Fordell until 1899 after 1866. • Birth Record: Registered 18 December 1839 by Registrar Henry Watson Entry No. 94. • He worked as a Farmer of Wairoa in 1870. • He had an estate probated Will Filed Probate Nos # 105/27 on 11 Nov 1927. John married Jane Frances Old, daughter of John Old and Mary Jane Knuckey, on 23 Nov 1870 in The Private Residence Of Mr John Old Of Wanganui, New Zealand. (Jane Frances Old was born on 3 Apr 1850 in New Plymouth, Taranaki, New Zealand, died on 28 May 1934 in Taihape, New Zealand and was buried on 30 May 1934 in Taihape Cemetery, Taihape, New Zealand.)
