At the time of the 1851 census Stephen and Elizabeth were living in Ram Alley, Stony Stratford East, Buckinghamshire. Stephen was 60, a Hay Trusser, Agricultural Labourer born Wolverton, Buckinghamshire. Elizabeth was 60, a Lacemaker, born Potterspury. Daughter Caroline was living with them. She was 18, a dressmaker, born Wolverton.

Living next door at this time was John Brown, 25, also a Hay Trusser, born Wolverton and his wife Eliza. John is probably Stephen and Elizabeth's son.

Stephen married Elizabeth Bason, daughter of John Bason ** and Ann Edwards **, on 2 Aug 1809. (Elizabeth Bason was born on 14 Apr 1790 in Potterspury, Northampton, England, christened on 25 Apr 1790 in Potterspury, Northampton, England and died in Apr 1874 in Potterspury, Northampton, England.)
