Notes for JOHN WILLIAM BARNES:
John and his brother Albert farmed around Fordell, but after the First Wor ld War took a block of land allocated by the Government up the Wanganui Ri ver, on the farm next to Rewi Alley. They tried to clear the land livi ng on wild pigs for food. They were starving when their brother George, went in by car and brought them out.
Never married.
