bullet  General Notes:

Julia was a convict who was tried in Dublin City on the 19th May 1824 and transported to Australia for 7 years (crime unknown at this stage). She arrived on the Mariner on the 10th July 1825. The ship sailed 12th March 1825 from Cork and embarked 113 females in Sydney. One record details that she was just 4 feet 91/2 inches tall, pale complexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes. In the remarks section was noted "Tolerable Single". At least she wasn't "Deranged" as one other woman was listed! Her religion was Catholic.

In October 1825 Julia was in prison in Sydney, her crime "Leaving her Service". She was sent to "the Factory" as punishment. This was the usual destination for recently arrived female convicts until they were assigned to a settler. She is recorded in the 1825 Convict Muster as being in the Female Factory, which was in Parramatta.

In the 1828 Census, Charles and Julia are bracketed together as "Residence" Windsor, but her name is recorded as Judy. This must be Julia his wife. She is recorded as 22 years old, not Free (I think, the designation appears to be GS). She is recorded as arriving on the Mariner sentenced 1824, with a 7 year sentence, religion Catholic.

As Charles remarried in October 1831 she must have died between the time of the Census and that time, but no record can be found so far.
