bullet  General Notes:

At the time of the 1851 Census, David, aged 9, was living with his Uncle Thomas Muir (his mother's brother) at Skaterigg Farmhouse in Renfrew, Glasgow. He was a Scholar. His Uncle Thomas, aged 37, born in Dalgety, was a Manager of Iron Mines. Living here also was Thomas' sister Louisa aged 26, born Dalgety, a Housekeeper. Both Thomas and Louisa were unmarried.

In 1861, he was living at the Newton Colliery in Cambuslang in Lanark, near Glasgow. He was aged 18, occupation "Clerk, Coal Work", born Dalgety. He was still living with his Uncle and Aunt, Thomas Muir, aged 47 and unmarried, a Coal Manager and Margaret L. Muir, 37, unmarried and a Dressmaker. The Head of the household was their mother, and David's Grandmother, Janet Hynd, aged 69, a Widowed Housekeeper, born in Dunfermline, Fifeshire.

Various Australian documents record that he was born in Fordell, Fifeshire. His birth was registered in Dalgetty, about 5 miles away.

In 1876 he was a witness at the wedding of Elizabeth's brother William to Elizabeth Forsyth Cadzow.

David was a Bachelor aged 44 when he married Elizabeth in 1886. On 7 October 1886 it was reported in The Argus in Melbourne that "Messrs Wilson and Hynd, Guerdon Reef, Harrietville finished a crushing today of 87 tons for 60 oz of gold. The reef is from 3ft. to 6ft. wide"

According to the Electoral Roll for 1909 he was a Labourer in Woodside, Victoria. Elizabeth is recorded as being in Palmerston, occupation home duties. I am unable to find a location named Palmerston in the area so perhaps it was a property name.

According to the Electoral Roll for 1914 he was a Farmer in Koo-wee-Rup, Victoria. Living with him at this time were his wife, Elizabeth and daughter Ettie both recorded as "Home Duties" for occupation.

According to his death certificate he had spent 64 years in Victoria, suggesting he arrived there in about 1867. Immigration records show that he arrived in Melbourne as an Unassisted Immigrant in December of 1866, aged 24, aboard the Dallam Tower. There were no other Hynd family members on that vessel.
