bullet  General Notes:

Oswald was educated at the State School and Stanley Grammar School in Adelaide, and later worked on John Duncan's Watervale property. In 1901 Oswald moved to Kalgoorlie in Western Australia to work at Lakeside and Boorora mines, before starting a cartage business.

The Hordacre family were pioneers of early settlement in Western Australia. Oswald held the contract for cartage of all supplies to the miones from Kalgoorlie and Boulder until 1913. In 1908 he had selected bushland for a farm near Tenterden located 17 miles north of Mt. Barker, on the Albany Highway, and then Perth into old age. Oswald carried on farming until 1956 when he sold the property to his son Laurence. He continued to live in a cottage on the property until 1963 when he moved to Mt Barker.
