bullet  General Notes:

Her death certificate records her birthplace as Regent's Park, London. The Informant was her son Adolphus who did not know Eliza's mother's name. On Eliza's Marriage Certificate she records her birthplace as Scotland, her father's name as James. The mother's name is difficult to make out but it might very likely be Jacobina - and there is a record of a birth of an Eliza Crabb Gray to parents James and Jacobina in Dundee, Scotland in 1828. I'm inclined to trust the Marriage Certicate for place of birth as this information presumably came direct from Eliza, rather than a potentially misinformed son.

There is a record of an Eliza Gray arriving in Melbourne on the Chalmers in 1852, aged 24. Also on this vessel was George Gray aged 26. If this is our Eliza this may have been a brother.

It was a Church of England ceremony. George signed his name but Eliza simply made her mark.
