bullet  General Notes:

Ernest was in the French Army attaining the rank of Lieutenant on 10th April 1917. He attended Military School in 1897 and on the 6th November 1898 joined the 6th Regiment de Curassiers, a cavalry regiment.

The 6th Regiment served with distinction on the Western Front in WW1. Ernest was awarded the Croix de Guerre with a Palm - a very high honour recognising that he had received 5 citations during his service in 1918-1919. A citation can be equated to a "Mention in Despatches". On the 30th December 1918, Ernest was also awarded the Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur. The Order is the highest decoration in France and is divided into five various degrees of which Chevalier (or Knight) is the highest. A rare honour.
