Jane came to Australia with her family aged about 8 from Scotland. Many members of her family appear to have used the surname Napier when in Australia. After having 4 children with John, Jane seems to have gone to live with another ex-Convict, Arthur Bristol, in southern NSW. She had several more children with him and they later married.

Jane married John Danes on 10 Nov 1845 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. (John Danes was born in 1811 in Norfolk County, England, United Kingdom, died on 4 Nov 1882 in St Leonards, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia and was buried on 6 Nov 1882 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.)
