Charles was apparently married twice. He married and had a family in Melbourne then one day disappeared. 40 years later Melbourne descendants were contacted by a person who was from his second family. He had travelled to Queensland and "married" again and had another family of two boys and two girls.

He served in WW2 as a Gunner under the name of Charles Frederick Fay, enlisting in Brisbane on the 10th June 1942. From 1954-1963 he was a Tailor at Injune Queensland and living at Roma. He died in Roma around 1965.

Charles married Elizabeth Mary Agnes Hocking, daughter of Ezekiel Ernest Hocking and Margaret Jones, on 4 Mar 1922 in Holy Trinity Church, Thornbury, Victoria, Australia. (Elizabeth Mary Agnes Hocking was born on 4 Dec 1900 in Harrietville, Victoria, Australia, died in 1974 in Preston, Victoria, Australia and was buried on 19 Nov 1974 in Cremated, Fawkner Crematorium, Victoria, Australia.). The cause of her death was Carcinoma of Lungs, months / Carcinoma of sigmoid colon, 18 months.

It was a Church of England Ceremony. Witnesses were A.V. Gooding and M. Boyd. As Charles was under the age of 21 his father's permission was required and granted.
