  General Notes:

At the time of the 1871 census he was living at 126 Essex Rd, Islington. He was 25, unmarried, and recorded as the Landlord of the property which comprised 3 households, apart from his own. He was a hat, cap and umbrella manufacturer, born in Islington.

By the time of the 1881 Census he had been married and widowed. He was still living at 126 Essex Road aged 35. Living with him was A.P.A. Godefroy, aged 39, unmarried. They are both described as the Head of the household and jointly as Hatters and umbrella manufacturers employing 2 men and 2 women. He is no longer renting out to tenants.

Daughter Emily Arnall was living with Edwards parents at the time of the 1891 Census, aged 17, born Islington, and described as their grandchild. At the time of the 1881 Census Emily Arnall was a Pupil residing with another Pupil and two unmarried sisters who were Schoolteachers. She may have been placed here as a Boarder if her widowed father could not care for her properly.

In 1911 Edward was not in the household with his family. Lizzie is living at 109 Junction Road, Holloway, London and recorded as the Head, She was 44, Married and had been married 28 years, with 11 children and 10 still living. Lizzie was a Shopkeeper (China), an Employer and working at home. Living with her were children, all single, all born in Islington: Florence,26, an Assistant in her father's business; Edward, 24, Clerk - publishing; Lizzie, 22, dressmaker; Carrie,21, a Printers Clerk with The Kings Printers; Ada, 19, a typist with a boot manufacturer; James, 18, a car repairer with a Motor Car Broker; Mildred,14; Edith,6; and Arthur, 12 all at School.

Edward married Emily Fuller, daughter of James Fuller and Unknown, on 2 Jul 1883 in St Paul's Church, Upper Holloway, Islington, Middlesex, England. (Emily Fuller was born circa 1848 and died ca.Jan 1879 in Islington, , Middlesex, England.)
