bullet  General Notes:

The 1851 census says he was born in New Monkland. The only baptism in the relevant period was on 1 Jan 1797 to father Robert in Airdrie. The mother's name was left blank for some reason. As Robert and Margaret Easton had another child there the following year she is most likely the mother. As he named his first son Robert this is very likely he, even though subsequent censuses slightly understate his age.

At the time of the 1841 Census he was living in Stane in Cambusnethan, Lanark. He was 40, a carter and born in the county. Living with him were Robert aged 20, a labourer; Jane, 15. a F.S (Farm servant?); George, 14, a Labourer - all born in the County. Also here was Marion Scott, 80, born in the County, probably his mother in law. It appears that his wife Agnes was deceased by this time as she is not in the household.

in 1851 he was still living in Stane, aged 52 and a Labourer, born New Monkland. Living with him was a wife, Jane, 51, born Glasgow, son George, married, 27 a Labourer born Cambusnethan and a Lodger, William Currie, 31, a labourer born Ireland.
