bullet  General Notes:

Alexander was illegitimate, being described in his baptism record as the "natural son of Isobel Forsyth and William Goldie, Coalier at Shotts". She did not marry him and they had no more children together. In 1841 he was living with his grandmother and working as a coalminer. His link to the Forsyth's is proved with a DNA connection to Craig via a descendant.

By 1851 he was married and living at 17 High St, Shotts. He was a 26 year old coalminer. His wife Christina was 27 and born in Falkirk, Stirling. His children were William,4, James, 2 and Margaret, 10 months. Also living with them was nephew, James Adams, 10, born Shotts, a scholar.
