bullet  General Notes:

At the time of the 1841 Census he was living at Ann Street, "Fetteresso, part of Stonehaven". He was recorded as age 45, a Tailor, born in the County. Living with him were his wife, Margaret, 40, son William, 21, Tailor [illegible], son John, 15, Tailor [illegible], daughter Ann 14, son James 7, daughter Christian [sic], 3, and son Joseph, 1. If his age was 45 this would place his birth year at 1796. Daughter Margaret does not appear to have been living with them at this time.

William's cousin, James Napier (son of his uncle James Napier) also married a Fairweather girl whose father was, at one time, a Tollkeeper just like Margaret's father. However I have not yet established a family link between the two Fairweather girls who had different parents. His cousin James was a Weaver by occupation and was a witness for the baptism of William's son, William - so they certainly knew each other well.

At the time of the 1851 Census he was living at Anne St, Stonehaven, possibly the same address as in 1841. He was aged 58 and his occupation was Tailor. His birthplace was recorded as Kincardine, Kinneff. Living with him were his wife, Margaret, aged 49, a "Tailor's wife", birthplace Aberdeen, Old Machar; son, James aged 16, a Printer Compositor born in Kincardine, Fetteresso; daughter Christine, aged 13, a scholar also born in Fetteresso; son, Jospeh aged 11, a scholar born in Fetteresso; and William Gerard, grandchild, aged 1 born in Fetteresso. William was the illegitimate son of William's daughter Anne, who was not in the household on Census day.

He operated a Tailor and Clother business in Stonehaven for about 35 years.

In about 1852 the family moved to Calderbank, Lanarkshire and in about 1856 they moved to Glasgow.

At the time of the 1861 Census he was living at 28 1/2 Parliamentary Rd Glasgow, the address he died at. His wife Margaret and son Joseph were living with him.
