General Notes: Gladys' father's parents emigrated to Australia about 1850, among the thousands of Chinese immigrants to come in the gold rushes. They disembarked at Robe and walked to the Bendigo goldfields. At the time Robe was a favoured disembarkation point for the Chinese as it was just over the Victorian border and the immigrants could avoid the 10 pounds poll tax levied on Chinese immigrants by Victoria. Gladys married Archibald Jones, son of William Jones ** and Elizabeth Forsyth Cadzow **, on 10 May 1930 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. (Archibald Jones was born on 24 Feb 1895 in Harrietville, Victoria, Australia, died on 12 Jun 1974 in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia and was buried on 14 Jun 1974 in Eaglehawk Cemetery, Eaglehawk, Victoria, Australia.).
