In 1942 Katherine is living at 15 Kembla St, Wollongong and working as a Laundry Worker. Ernest is not living here - perhaps he was serving in the War. In 1949 Ernest and Katherine were living at 150 Kembla St, Wollongong. Ernest was a Soldier and Katherine a Laundry Worker. In 1954 Katherine is still recorded at this address, and still a laundry worker, but Ernest was not. He was living at 225 Glenmore Road, Paddington, Sydney, occupation soldier. This is quite close to the Victoria Barracks. In 1958 Ernest, still a soldier, is living at 18 Monash Crescent, Mt Austin near Wagga Wagga. There was/is an army base in Wagga and it is likely he was stationed there. However living at the same address is Esther Ellen Palmer, home duties. Ernest married Esther in 1955 in Griffith. In 1977 he and Esther were living at 10 Beltana Ave, Wagga. He has no occupation listed. Living with them is Ellen Marion, a nurse, presumably their daughter. They were still there in 1980 but with Linda May a laundry hand.

Ernest married Katherine Mary Kipp, daughter of Augustus Frederick W. Kipp and Eva Agatha O'Sullivan, in 1942 in Merriwa, , New South Wales, Australia. (Katherine Mary Kipp was born about 1922, died on 2 Jan 1997 in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia and was buried in 1997 in Bulli Cemetery, Bulli, New South Wales, Australia.)
