He is described as an "entrepreneur" and a "legend" by his grandson, Gerard. At one stage he had a small transport company which transported people around in the back of trucks for a coin. Then he opened the first French bakery in Casablanca. Later he owned a sisal rope factory in Casablanca that still exists to this day. He also owned a farm about 200 km south of Casablanca, which was later sold.
