bullet  General Notes:

At the time of the 1851 Census Robert was living in Dykehead, Shotts. He was aged 56, a Coal Mine, born in Larbert, Stirlingshire. Living with him were his wife, Janet Beveridge, aged 57, born Dalgetty, Fifeshire; his mother Isobel Laird, aged 80 a Widow supported by her family, born Larbert, Stirlinghsire; son Thomas, aged 23 and Unmarried, a coal miner born in Shotts; and James Campbell aged 15, a Servant Coal Drawer and Mary Simpson aged 13, a House Servant, both born in Shotts.

Robert and his family, and these two servants all emigrated to the USA, arriving in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on the 11th November, 1851 aboard the Marchioness of Clydesdale. They probably spent some time in McKeesport where some of his brothers had settled. The family later moved on to the State of Wisconsin.
