General Notes: John Gould born Plympton St Mary Underwood Egg Buckland Devonshire 1857; third child, second son of Emma Gould. Baptised at the Union Workhouse, Plympton St Mary, August 16, 1857 by Rev William J Copeland, Church of England. Lived at Plymstock with his widowed grandmother, Sarah Gould at the time of the 1871 Census in which he is described as a scholar aged 13 years. Noted events in his life were: • He resided at Kimbolton, New Zealand between 1881 and 1889. • He resided at Mangarimu, Kimbolton after 1897. • He was baptised Baptised at the Union Workhouse, Plympton St Mary by Rev William J Copeland, Church of England on 16 Aug 1857. • He immigrated Arrived in New Zealand on October 25th, 1874 as an assisted immigrant on the 'Douglas'. It was a memorable voyage on which 31 died. on 25 Oct 1874. John married Christianna Old, daughter of John Old and Mary Jane Knuckey, on 23 Feb 1881 in St John's Church, , Matarawa, , , New Zealand. (Christianna Old was born on 12 Aug 1862 in Fordell, Wanganui, New Zealand, died on 21 Jun 1900 in Mangarimu, Kimbolton, Wanganui, New Zealand and was buried about 24 Jun 1900 in Kimbolton Cemetery, Kimbolton, Wanganui, New Zealand.) Noted events in their marriage were: • Marriage Licence: Cert 175, , , New Zealand. Marriage Notes: Married at St Johns Church, Matarawa on February 23rd, 1881 by Archdeac on Thorpe. |
