Wow!!!
Where do I start to thank you both so much for all that data. I have had m any enjoyable hours already going through it all and it is as fascinati ng as it is informative. Many strange co-incidences as well as ironies to o. I have been in touch with my sister Patricia , who still lives in Te Ku iti, and she is going to try to look for some of the Olds who died in t he area and would be buried in the "old" cemetery there. In your note s, my father is listed as Charles Donald ROSE. His middle name was Loui s, named after his grandfather, Charles Louis ROSE. I am still worki ng my way through that line and I have noted somewhere that some famili es may have crossed in Bluff in the mid 1800s,
Drawing a long bow there, I know. My mysterious gg grandfather Charles Ro se appeared in Bluff about that time and apparently changed his name to RO SE after his arrival, possibly via the Victorian goldfields. He listed h is place of birth as Canada! I hear that is a big place and so I will ha ve a lot of hunting to do there. If and when I get most of the ROSE fami ly sorted, would you be interested in adding it to the OLD line ???

I was delighted to hear that you spent some time in WA, lorna. We feel t he same about those eastern staters on the other side of the Nullabor as y ou Kiwis do from that side of the Tasman!
Boy, I have downed many a cold middy in the Palace after a hot day on t he rigs. I know what the dust of Kalgoorlie can do. It is a place you eith er love or hate, no in between with Kal. I loved it mainly because we on ly used it as a base as we were mostly out on the exploration rigs wi th a geologists team for weeks on end. Our main base was the Star and Gart er, so we had to pass a few pubs before we got the Palace! It is a flash p lace now, all done up in its finery. You wouldn't recognise the town no w. The Super Pit is right up to the town limits and they even demolished t he old Boulder Block pub so they could scratch a bit more gold from the pl ace. Shame you missed the Kimberleys, Maybe next time.

So to you both, thank you once again and if ever Ican do anything to assi st either of you, I will be only too glad.

Thanks again
Dave Rose.
