bullet  General Notes:

The story of the Lawrence family and in particular the emigration to Australia of their son Abraham, what became of him there, and a record of his descendants, is recounted in Craig's award-winning book - In the Shadow of Feathertop: a history of the Lives and legacy of George Jones and Margaret Hardie. He is referred to as Captain Benjamin Lawrence by some researchers.

At the time of the 1851 Census he was living in Niagara, Canada. He was a Farmer, aged 53, born in Upper Canada and his religion was Weslyan Methodist. Living here also were his wife Elizabeth aged 54. His wife and children were all born Upper Canada too and their religion was Weslyan Methodist too. The children were: Abraham, occupation Farming, aged 25; Isaac occupation Farming, aged 23; Sarah aged 20; Joseph, occupation Farming, aged 18; Maria aged 16; Sarah Mariah Cornick aged 2, his grand-daughter. His father-in-law, Joseph Haines was also living with them, aged 88, born USA, and Church of England.

I am indebted to Howard Ray Lawrence for much of the Lawrence family genealogy.
