Eliza Gray
(1828-1895) |
Eliza Gray
Cause of her death was Pleurisy Exhaustion, 7 days. Another name for Eliza was Elizabeth Gray. General Notes: Her death certificate records her birthplace as Regent's Park, London. The Informant was her son Adolphus who did not know Eliza's mother's name. On Eliza's Marriage Certificate she records her birthplace as Scotland, her father's name as James. The mother's name is difficult to make out but it might very likely be Jacobina - and there is a record of a birth of an Eliza Crabb Gray to parents James and Jacobina in Dundee, Scotland in 1828. I'm inclined to trust the Marriage Certicate for place of birth as this information presumably came direct from Eliza, rather than a potentially misinformed son. Noted events in her life were: • She worked as a Servant at the time of her marriage on 20 Dec 1853 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. • She resided at the time of her marriage on 20 Dec 1853 in Pentridge, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Eliza married George Croucher, son of Joseph Croucher and Frances Corbin, on 29 Dec 1853 in Trinity Church, Pentridge, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. (George Croucher was born in 1815 in Sopley, Hampshire, England, christened on 26 Jul 1815 in Sopley, Hampshire, England, died on 9 May 1881 in District Hospital, Beechworth, Victoria, Australia and was buried on 11 May 1881 in Myrtleford Cemetery, Myrtleford, Victoria, Australia.). The cause of his death was Pneumonia 26 days. Marriage Notes: It was a Church of England ceremony. George signed his name but Eliza simply made her mark. |
