Louie Ok Ru
Another name for Louie was Ok Ru Louie. General Notes: He emigrated to Australia about 1850, one of the thousands of Chinese immigrants to come in the gold rushes. He disembarked at Robe and walked to the Bendigo goldfields. At the time Robe was a favoured disembarkation point for the Chinese as it was just over the Victorian border and the immigrants could avoid the 10 pounds poll tax levied on Chinese immigrants by Victoria. Louie married Louey Shu Law. (Louey Shu Law was born in Canton, China.) |
