- Born: ca. 1839, Kingscourt, Cavan, Ulster, Ireland
- Died: After 2 Dec 1894, poss USA
General Notes:
John & Margaret and children Owen, 21;Judith, 19; John, 17, Ellen 15 and Mary, 11 are recorded on a NSW Immigration Deposit Journal dated 18 February 1860. The depositor was one Thomas Connally, probably their son missing from the list above. The family is described as from Kings Court, Cavan with their referee being Rev W. Duff the Parish priest in Cavan. John, Owen, and John jnr were all described as labourers, the girls as Domestic Servants. However, it appears that plans changed - only Judith (Julia Ellen), John and Ellen actually came to Australia (on the British Trident, arriving in 1861). No evidence of the remaining family members can be found in Immigration records and, in fact, the youngest child, Mary emigrated to the USA and married there in 1868. There is a notation against John (the father) saying "with 67/538 20/4/67 and his wife Margaret is bracketed with him with this notation. Son Owen has the notation "Refunded" against his name. Julia (Judith), John and Ellen all have "British Trident" recorded against their name.
As Owen was refunded it suggests he never came to Australia. Perhaps he went to the USA and that is why his sister Mary went there, rather than Australia.
