bullet  General Notes:

He does not appear to be a brother to Elisabeth Gillespie who married his wife's brother, Livingstone. His parents may be James Gillespie and Agnes Lang and he may have been baptised 1 Oct 1815, especially since their first named son was James.

James and Isobel emigrated to Pennsylvania USA.

At the time of the 1880 USA census John and Isabel are living in the household of their son, John, in Wilkinsburg, Allegheny, Pennsylvania. John, aged 66, is a coalminer, born Scotland and Isabell, 82, a Boarder, born Scotland.
