General Notes: Julia arrived in Sydney, Australia on 7 January 1861 aboard the British Trident. Her name was recorded as Judith CONNOLLY on the Immigration record. She was travelling with her sister Eleanor (Ellen), and brother John. They were recorded in the lists of single females, and males (for John). Judith was aged 19, Eleanor just 15 and John 17. Judith and Eleanor were listed as Farm Servants from (what looks like) Lara, Cavan. This is probably "Larah" which is about 35km to the NW of Kingscourt. They were Roman Catholic and could not read or write. John was a Farm Labourer from Kingscourt, Cavan, Roman Catholic and could not read or write. Noted events in her life were: • She emigrated to Australia on the "British Trident" on 7 Jan 1861. • She worked as a Servant at the time of her marriage on 4 Jul 1862 in Tenterfield, New South Wales, Australia. Julia married Patrick Whelan **, son of John Patrick Whelan and Mary Doolan, on 4 Jul 1862 in Tenterfield, New South Wales, Australia. (Patrick Whelan ** was born circa 1829-1833 in Kilkenny, Ireland, died on 29 Nov 1915 in Clifton, 10 Mile nr, Tenterfield, , New South Wales, Australia and was buried on 30 Nov 1915 in RC Cemetery, Tenterfield Cemetery, Tenterfield, , New South Wales, Australia.). The cause of his death was Uraemia, Arterio Sclerosis 5 weeks. Marriage Notes: It was a Roman Catholic Ceremony. Witnesses were John & Mary Koch. |
