Charles Meek
General Notes: See notes for Helen Meek also. At the time of the 1841 Census he was an Iron Miner aged 20 living in Fauldstone, Whitburn. He was not born in the County, and he was living with Thomas (aged 25) and Isabella (aged 25 also) Meek, perhaps siblings, and Janet meek aged 55, "Independent" and born in the County, possibly their mother. Isabella is recorded as having been foreign born, or born in England or Ireland. Living here also were Thomas and Michael Cadzow, and an Alexander Thornton (aged 7). I have been unable to establish any connection to the Meeks or Cadzows for Alexander Thornton. Noted events in his life were: • He worked as an Iron Miner at the time of the Census in 1841 in Whitburn, Linlithgow, West Lothian, Scotland. • He worked as an Overseer at the Iron Works at the time of Peter's death on 12 Aug 1858. Charles married Helen Meek, daughter of James Meek and Catharine Thomson. (Helen Meek was born on 28 Aug 1815 in Whitburn, Linlithgow, West Lothian, Scotland, died on 9 Jun 1906 in Mannanarie, South Australia, Australia and was buried in Yongala Cemetery, Yongala, , South Australia, Australia.) |
