James Hardy
- Born: 2 May 1756, Leuchars, Fife, Scotland
- Marriage (1): Agnes Higgie on 17 Nov 1782 in Cupar, Fife, Scotland
Another name for James was James Hardie.
General Notes:
On his marriage record Agnes' surname is difficult to read (it's been hyphenated between lines) and the index records it as "Haigow". However, James is recorded as from the Parish of Kemback so I'm pretty sure this is the right couple. Agnes is from Cupar Parish. These parishes are adjacent to each other in Fife.
On son Peter's baptism record James is described as a "Farmer in Rumgally". Rumgally is just to the SW of Kemback. His father was also a farmer here.
There are two records of burials for James Hardie in Kemback. One occurred on 4 July 1816 and the other of 16 January 1794. It's not clear which is he. No more children appear to have been born after 1794. However the baptism record for his daughter Christian dated 12 July 1794 records her as the "daughter of James Hardie" with no reference to his passing. I'm not sure what the norms were but it may indicate that the 1816 death is the right one.
Noted events in his life were:
• He worked as a Farmer at the time of peter's baptism on 17 Jul 1785 in Rumgally, Kemback, Fife, Scotland.
James married Agnes Higgie, daughter of Robert Haigie and Janet Watson, on 17 Nov 1782 in Cupar, Fife, Scotland. (Agnes Higgie was born in 1756 in Forgan,Fife,Scotland and was christened on 11 Jan 1756 in Forgan,Fife,Scotland.)
