There is a record in "Monumental Inscriptions (pre-1855) in East Stirlingshire" of a grave in the Larbert Churchyard as follows:
#494 "1798; John Brown & Helen Simpson; Wm Laird & Grizell Thomas; (on top) no. 81"
These is our couple, although the 1798 is confusing as their last son William was baptised in 1799. I am speculating that perhaps Helen died in childbirth and William's baptism was delayed... William Laird was John & Helen's nephew, son of Helen's sister Mary. Grizell Thomas was his wife.
Helen married John Brown, son of John Brown and Mary Baad, on 21 May 1785 in Larbert, Stirling, Scotland. (John Brown was born circa Feb 1765 in Larbert, Stirling, Scotland, christened on 20 Feb 1765 in Larbert, Stirling, Scotland and died before 17 Apr 1859.)
