In 1874 he was attending school in Myrtleford, Victoria, his family having recently moved there from Bright. When his father died in December 1887 Thomas was living in Harrietville and working as a Miner.

In 1903 he was a Miner living in Harrietville.

In 1908 & 1913 he and Norah were living on Thursday Island, he was a miner. Also living on Thursday Island in 1913 was William Thomas Cadzow (his son), a clerk and Annie Cadzow, home duties.
