Ellen arrived in Australia on 7 January 1861 aboard the British Trident. Her name was recorded as Eleanor on the Immigration record. She was travelling with her sister Judith (Julia Ellen), and brother John. They were recorded in the lists of single females, and males (for John). Judith was aged 19, Eleanor just 15 and John 17. Judith and Eleanor were listed as Farm Servants from (what looks like) Lara, Cavan. This was probably "Larah" which is about 35km NW of Kingscourt. They were Roman Catholic and could not read or write. John was a Farm Labourer from Kingscourt, Cavan, Roman Catholic and could not read or write.
Ellen married George Braid, son of James Braid and Ann Clerk, on 9 Jul 1862 in Ballandean nr, Warwick, , Queensland, Australia. (George Braid was born on 5 Oct 1828 in Kennoway, Fife, Scotland and died on 5 Jul 1881 in Bryans Gap nr, Tenterfield, , New South Wales, Australia.)
