   Other names for Samuel were Samuel Lou Goon, Samuel Loue Goon and Samuel Lougoon.

Although his death certificate records that Samuel was born in China and came to Australia in about 1886, several researchers say that he was born in Bendigo in 1867 and that his parents travelled to Bendigo on foot from Robe (SA) in about 1850.
