   Another name for Bridget was Briget Durneen.

  General Notes:

She was Christened Briget Durneen. Witnesses were Thomas Durneen and Abby Murphy.

Her death certificate records that she had been in Viictoria for 62 years, suggesting she arrived in 1886.

Bridget possibly worked in the Beechworth Lunatic Asylum, which is also where her brother worked. In her later years she was bed-ridden and almost blind, and cared for by her unmarried daughter Annie. They lived together at 12 Bridge St, Port Melbourne, where she died in 1948.

She is buried in the Melbourne General Cemetery, along with her husband, Hugh. RC Section AA, Grave 86. The Memorial Inscription reads:

In Loving Memory / of / HUGH / Loved Husband of / BRIDGET LEONARD / Died 28 June 1923 / Aged 57 Years / Also the Above / BRIDGET LEONARD / Died 30th May 1948 / Aged 86 Years / R.I.P

Although she is recorded as 86 years old on her headstone, and on her death certificate, it seems that she was actually 92.

Bridget married Hugh Leonard, son of Philip Leonard and Jane McManus, on 4 Jun 1891 in Beechworth, Victoria, Australia. (Hugh Leonard was born about 1867 in Fermanagh, Ireland, died on 28 Jun 1923 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia and was buried in Melbourne General Cemetery, Carlton, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.). The cause of his death was Heart Attack.

It was a Catholic ceremony presided over by W. Tierney. Witnesses were James Durnan, Bridget's brother, and Margaret McNamara.
