bullet  General Notes:

Like his father, Stanley pursued a career in the postal service. The electoral rolls show that between 1930 and 1933 at least, he was living at 30 Percival Road, Annandale South, with his occupation recorded as "Postal Official". By 1936 he was still living in Annandale South, but now at 101 Cardigan Street, and working as a clerk, probably still with the Post Office. The following year he had moved to 37 Salisbury Road in the same suburb.

On 18 June 1941 Stanley enlisted in the Australian Military Forces (AMF). He was assigned to the Army Postal Corps and assigned the service number NX37572. At the time of his enlistment he was employed as a mail officer and was living at 29 Greenhills Street, Croydon, New South Wales. Over the next few months he served in Sydney and Melbourne, but at the end of September 1941 he embarked for the Middle East and at the end of November was assigned to the Australian Imperial Forces (AIF) Base Postal Unit there. By 2 February 1942 he was returning to Australia, embarking on the Gleniffer and disembarking in Adelaide on 16 March, where he was assigned to the 4th Military District.

In May he was promoted to Acting Sergeant and sent to Sydney where he was assigned to the 2nd AIF Base Postal Unit. In early June he was appointed to the rank of Acting Warrant Officer, 2nd Class and in August was sent by train to Brisbane where he joined the Queensland Line of Command structure. Soon after, he was confirmed in the rank of Warrant Officer, 2nd Class.

Stanley continued to serve in Queensland until after the end of the war. It was in Brisbane that he met a local girl, Leonora Lomas, whom he married in 1946, just before he was sent back to Sydney and discharged from the Army (due to demobilisation) on 14 February 1946.
Stanley and Leonora were living in Sydney at 4 Abbotsford Street, Kensington in 1949. Stanley resumed his career with the Post Office and Leonora attended to home duties. The electoral rolls reveal that by 1954 they had moved to 56 Melvin Street in Beverly Hills, Sydney, the address that they would continue to live at until at least 1980. For all of this time, and typically for an era where individuals stayed with their employers (particularly in the public service) for most of their working lives, Stanley remained employed with the Post Office as a mail officer.
