Catherine emigrated to Australia in 1869 on the Zenobia. There were 495 passengers in total. Her Occupation was listed as Servant, aged 22. She was accompanying a child named Timothy Curtin, aged 9, her nephew. This was Timothy James Curtin, son of her sister, Mary.

From the Narrandera Argus, Friday 18 December 1925

The late Mrs. Katherine Durnan, relict of the late Mr. Patrick Durnan, whose death in Sydney at the age of 77 years we recently reported was a native of Limerick Ireland.

She came to Victoria about 51 years ago, and some time afterwards went to Goombargana, and from thence to Grong Grong in 1881. From Grong Grong Mr. and Mrs. Durnan went to Mt Crystal in 1889, where Mr. Durnan carried on farming operations.

Deceased leaves a family of four sons and two daughters. The sons are Messrs Patrick T, Timoth F, James W, and John G, all of whom are resident in the Mt Crystal district. The daughters are Mary (Mrs. E Sullivan, Sunnyside) and Anne (Mrs R. Barrett, Sydney). Mr. Durnan died about 15 years ago.

Catherine married Patrick Durnan **, son of Patrick Durnan ** and Anne Magrath **, on 30 Nov 1872 in Beechworth, Victoria, Australia. (Patrick Durnan ** was born in 1840 in Fermanagh, Ireland, christened on 21 Sep 1840 in Kinawley, , Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, died on 27 Dec 1909 in Public Hospital, Narrandera, New South Wales, Australia and was buried on 27 Dec 1909 in Narrandera Cemetery, Old R/C Section B, Narrandera, New South Wales, Australia.). The cause of his death was Perforative Appendicitis/ General Peritonitis / abt 1 week.


bullet  Marriage Notes:

The wedding was witnessed by (looks like) John Durnan, Patrick's brother. It was a Catholic ceremony - no church is mentioned.
